Bird returned to Terre Haute, Indiana — home of India

40 mins agovia Fieldhouse Files

Bird returned to Terre Haute, Indiana — home of Indiana State University —and answered questions from reporters after the ribbon-cutting for the brand newLarry Bird Museuminside the convention center. The festivities started just after 10:30 a.m. outside, in downtown Terre Haute. Bird kept his remarks to the public brief, to about two minutes. But he started and closed with heartfelt words. “I want to thank everyone that had anything to do with putting this museum together,” said Bird, 67. “I know it’s not easy. Takes a lot of time, a lot of people, but I think you’ll enjoy it. “I know there’ll be thousands of young kids come through there. And like I always say, if just one of them gets a feeling to do something, not only in basketball, but other sports, and is successful at it, it’s done its job. “There’s so many things in there that brings back memories. You go from Indiana State, then to Boston, then to coaching, then the front office. So there’s just so many things to look at and I’m very proud to just be a small part of it.”

Pistons to pursue Nicolas Claxton and Malik Monk?

Bird returned to Terre Haute, Indiana — home of Indiana State University —and answered questio… (1)

James L. Edwards III: As for other realistic free-agent options, I think Detroit goes heavily after the likes ofMalik Monk,Nic ClaxtonandGary Harris. Monk feels like someone the Pistons will heavily prioritize due to the team’s need for legitimate 3-point shooting and off-the-dribble shot creation. Claxton would address the rim protection woes. Harris, despite usually missing several games a season due to injury, is the exact type of 3-and-D role player the Pistons could desperately use.

“Pat Riley, he’s the best. He’s extremely supportive,”said Mourning, who has been in an executive role with the Heat as the vice president of player programs since his playing career came to an end in 2008. “When I shared the news and I waited before I told him. I shouldn’t have waited as long as I did, but I just wanted to get a hold of what was going on. But once I gathered all the information and knew what I was going to do, he told me: ‘Take as much time as you need. Come back when you’re ready.’ “So he’s very supportive. He said he was there for me if I needed anything, obviously. But he said, take as much time as you need. I came back probably a lot sooner than I should have because I wanted to be there for the guys.”

Charles Barkley to TNT: 'Just tell us something'

Bird returned to Terre Haute, Indiana — home of Indiana State University —and answered questio… (5)

“That’s the one thing that’s really, really bothered me the most about the TNT experience. Like, hey man, just tell us something,” Barkley told Mad Dog Sports Radio’s Beadle & Decker on Tuesday. “Everybody’s got an article coming out every day about ‘we’ve still got a chance’ or ‘we’ve lost it.’ You guys see us every week, how bout picking up the phone, saying ‘Hey, we still negotiating’ or ‘you know what, we’ve lost it.’ “Just truth us. Cause the one thing that really sucks, we gotta do this next year no matter what.”
