What defines innovation success, greatly depends on how mature an innovation is. And that's why it's key to realize and agree on the current stage of an innovation before generating objectives. Here we discuss the connection between innovation stages and objectives in great detail: https://lnkd.in/eWbz_ACB#innovation #agile #leanstartup #productdiscovery #designthinking

How many times have you had discussions with colleagues and investors about meaningful objectives, just to realize that you fundamentally disagree on the stage that applies to your innovation?Classic mistakes that I see repeated over and over again:• Founders committing to ideas without proper scouting of alternatives• Investors pressing for scaling before seeing promising signs of adoption• PMs underestimating how scaling a product is different to shaping it• C-Level sticking with evolution during a phase of disrupting change

In case you were wondering what I have been working on lately 🙂A bit of background story: When wrapping up a project together with Mitt Korot last year, we started to talk about why innovation is in constant jeopardy within large organizations. While for sure everyone can relate to what is seemingly a law of nature, we can also all name outstanding exceptions to it, organizations that grow large and maintain their capability of staying innovative, oftentimes with hundreds of people successfully collaborating on a single piece of innovation. Therefore, in reality, this law is a tendency. And when we understand the underlying mechanics of this tendency, then we can influence it, sketching out a pathway of how to avoid it.So our conversation did not settle with one of the typical answers and instead continued over many sessions to identify where the disconnect between strategy and reality exactly happens and how these exceptional organizations maintain an effective innovation environment as they grow bigger. To find a satisfying answer, we revisited most of the well-known literature in the field as well as all the personal experience available to us, most importantly, the experience of our network. As a result, we identified two key challenges that lay the foundation of innovation success and that are rarely and not properly addressed by established innovation methods:1) Clearly defining and communicating what success for an innovation looks like and how the different success factors need to converge to accomplish the overall innovation mission.2) Systematically generating and realizing the learnings that potentially affect priority and strategy, actively distinguishing them from learning about micro-level details. To tackle these two issues, we started to compile a common language to talk about these challenges and then developed a straightforward approach to translate that common language into the specific challenges of different domains and industries. In today's working environment such an approach needed to be:- rooted in a strong visual concept,- embracing collaboration and - immediately actionableOver many iterations, and with plenty of feedback from innovative folks around the globe, this approach materialized as a guide to effective innovation that is centered around a set of interactive canvases for everyone to address their challenge with the tools and methods they appreciate, but in a new light: Adaptive Innovation. We are looking forward to hearing your reactions!

Staying Ahead in Product Innovation: My ContributionIn today's fast-paced world, competitors introducing new technologies is inevitable. To stay ahead in product innovation, I believe in the following key strategies:1. **Customer-Centric Innovation**: Continuously gathering customer feedback to understand their evolving needs and pain points is essential. Innovation must align with what adds value to the customer.2. **Agile Development**: By adopting an agile mindset, I focus on iterative development, enabling quicker adjustments and enhancements in response to market shifts.3. **Collaborative Ecosystem**: Engaging with industry experts, partners, and cross-functional teams encourages a flow of fresh ideas and knowledge-sharing that sparks innovation.4. **Investing in R&D**: Staying ahead means constantly exploring new technologies and trends through dedicated research and development.5. **Fostering a Culture of Innovation**: Encouraging creativity within teams and rewarding bold ideas can fuel continuous improvement, ensuring products remain cutting-edge.By combining these approaches, I believe we can stay one step ahead and lead in product innovation, even in competitive landscapes.
