Laluzi's Baldur's Gate 3 Project | Dragon Share | Flight Rising (2024)

@Fledhyris Skipping a bit between thread posting and userpage posting, but the babies not being from the same clutch makes it a bit easier... but having to yeet the perfectly good coatls until you got a wildclaw is painful. I don't think the hard part of G1s is really the genes – if I'm active, I can acquire them at a decent pace. The hard part is actually finding a dragon that works for your project. It's completely random what's for sale at any given time and the only way to speed up the process is to widen your search (by adding colors and elements you don't exactly want, but could still work with.) Also, things like matching eyes, doubles, greyscales, black & reds, or god forbid pure blacks and pure whites, yanks up the price significantly, and characters might become nightmares based on their aesthetic. Again: Astarion cost me 125kg. That's an exceptionally insane example, because he's a triple white range and that's as bad as it gets, and I would only ever dream of paying so much for the blorbo, but a lot of times I have to compromise on characters with palettes like that to avoid landing in those collector hotboxes.

That poor Dusthide, lol! Every member of that family is having an acute identity crisis.

Oooh... that's a very pretty Astarion outfit. You say Drow Armor (Minthara's armor?), but I think that's a solid recreation of that one ensemble I and everyone else stuffed him into as soon as Act 3 wardrobes arrived. The way it segues into the wing is gorgeous!

Uuuughhh, the Act 3 crashes. They did improve performance a bit within the past few months (if you haven't tried since then), but it's still not great. Tbh, I do think Act 1 and 2 are the best parts of the game – Act 3 has amazing character climaxes and Withers' epilogue party is high-octane fuel for the soul, but the companions don't feel as present outside their quests (compared to Act 1, where you're absolutely spoiled with random character moments), Lae'zel and Gale had obvious content cut, and I've also got some issues with Wyll's writing that I will loudly talk about with anyone unfortunate enough to show interest. And the final battle is cool, but after the Nightsong cinematic and storming Moonrise Towers with the Harpers... well, it's hard to outdo something that legendary. It's an amazing experience throughout, and I'm not afraid to say it's the best game I've ever played, but I think it put its best foot forward early.

Still, wishing you a non-potato computer posthaste, so you can experience it all for yourself! Though it's possible someone might mod Baldur's Gate to clean up the no-name NPCs and improve performance? I wouldn't be surprised if that already exists.

(pfff, the first time I found Tara, I was controlling Gale, and he failed the perception check to recognize his own cat)

@reliquiaen Oh snap the book. The List. You're right. Forget the hazebeacon, Jergal needs that. This is why I love comparing scries so much – other people always come up with things you weren't thinking of!

Re: the mantles and the starsilks (nightfall and moondust! it's in the names!!!!) You. You have excellent ideas. I was thinking Shar's crown wasn't blinged out enough and this works wonders... though I wish I could get the gold horns but the black wings. I did find a decent dragon for Shar, who demands shadow element and a pretty tight black or dark purple range... but she's 16kg and just isn't perfect enough for me to want to pay that much.

Though if I relent on shadow (which I really don't want to do...), there's one with water eyes whose colors I like a lot more, and she's only 300g. Choices.

Oh, no, I get that! These things spiral if you don't set limits. I originally started out with Astarion and had to go make all the core party (whom I'm deeply obsessed with and would have done anyway), and when I got all the origins I went 'okay, I need Jaheira and Halsin and Minthara and Minsc too', and then like you I picked up an Orin and decided I needed the whole Dead Three trio, and I got a really great dragon for Cazador and decided 'hey what if I did the villains'... and in my case, I am obsessed (and sitting on enough dragon money) that I can afford to do that. And yeah - you do end up with a lot of dragons that you love as a whole, but individually you aren't invested in most of them beyond 'dang, I made a dragon that looks good' and '[fandom]!!!!'.

But I've done this before. I tend to glom onto a fandom for a year or two at a time, sometimes more, and that gives me time to keep engaging with it. See: pile of 38 Ace Attorney fandragons, many of them minor characters. And I don't regret that, but I have a lot of projects left over that are rotting in my hibden because I'm no longer invested enough to keep adding to those fandoms. Also, lair space. I'm at the point where every new fandragon means I have to chuck someone else into the den, and at this point it's my breeding pairs that are getting the boot. FR, please give lairspace. I beg of you.

If they're characters that you know will stay in your heart, I would say go for it. But if the hype is fading, I would be careful about committing to the ones that you're not head over heels in love with and are just riding the coattails of BG3 hype – and that includes the party members that you felt compelled to do for completionism's sake. An oversized lair doesn't bother me but too many possessions irl absolutely does, so stick with the ones that mean something to you and only those. No need for expensive clutter.

But, whether you complete them or not, know all your scries are amazing! Sometimes it really is enough just to make them without committing. And they might live on in the elements I just shamelessly poached from some of them, lmao.

(...He Who Was would be a very fun one to scry, though. Especially with the raven necklace. Writing that down...)

@klefairies How in the nine hells did I forget Raphael, magnificent theater kid that he is. We love a man who sings his own villain theme. Brb gotta rectify this immediately. ...he'll probably still plot my destruction for having scried Dribbles before him, though. That kind of insult isn't borne.

Raphael

Raph is another one that I'd really want to make an imperial, and that just isn't happening. I am not super sure about the inked mantle – love the horns, but the other bits make him look too busy – so this one's definitely still a WIP. I like how his vest turned out, though!
