Job Description PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under general direction, exercises primary technical and administrative responsibility for the operation of a large laboratory or group of laboratories engaged in chemical analyses of, and testing for, a wide variety of materials and substances.

Position Summary The Associate Chemist III is directly responsible to the Lab Director and manages the daily operation of the chemistry division. Duties Include

• Work with minimal supervision
• Involved in instrumentation decisions
• Maintain staffing including preparing monthly scheduling and approval of staff time off requests
• Monitoring and handling Chemistry budget including purchasing requisition submission and reviewing quarterly spending reports.
• Receive and send results for CAP and NYSDOH proficiency testing and prepare corrective action reports when needed.
• Check the performance of the chemistry analyzers and monitor monthly statistics of quality control. Participates in inter-laboratory peer group
• Prepare and revise procedure (SOPM) for chemistry division manuals for the chemistry division
• Coordinate all CAP and NYSDOH required tasks and studies for the chemistry lab
• Trains subordinates on various instruments and retrain technologists who need retraining
• Prepare staff annual evaluation
• Performs the required preventive maintenance on all chemistry instruments.
• Validate results into the LIS system.
• Follows infection control and safety procedures at all times
• Adheres to all new procedure and regulations

Minimum Qualifications

• A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 credits in chemistry, chemical engineering, or forensic science, and three years of satisfactory full-time experience in chemical work; or
• Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 above. However, all candidates must have the 24 credits as described above.
