Rate Cox Support

On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) rate Cox's Technical Support. I would give them a 2. First off, I had Cox HSI installed at one of my homes, and it never worked. Had three trucks come out after the instalation, they didn't fix anything. One of them told me I had to many splitters. The next one said I had run a line right from the outside box. And the last one was clueless. Second off, I was having problems with my webmail. Called tech support and they told me I couldn't access webmail cause I'm not on my Cable internet. Another thing is every time I email cox a question, they tell me to call their tech support line! What do you think of cox tech support? Are these trained professionals, or regular Joes that just need a job?

"9" I have to give credit...where its due....most of the "techs" have been VERY helpful(at least they have soothed my angry brow)...even the ones I call up to send the ones who climb the poles & list'n to me bitch..they smile at me & say "Its going to get better sir"..I appreciate that.

By the way COXnightmare...has anyone ever told you "you have a lovely face?" (If in fact.. thats your picture)

For residential support i give them a "8", and for business support i give them a "10".....both have been excellent, just takes longer to get someone on the phone for residential support.

Here in Orange County - San Clemente- I'd say phone support tries it's best to be helpful given the tools they have. But,I often get put on hold for over 15 minutes and then they just don't seem to be able to diagnose and solve, even when level 2 gets involved. The always want to send someone out to the house and then it takes a WEEK for that to happen. This is way too slow. And, with my crazy unpredictable schedule I'm always having to cancel and reschedule. So overall, even will all the cheery and helpful techs on the phone I'd only give them a 2.

I don't think rating Cox's Tech support is as simple as it might seem.

No, you don't get the National Backbone Engineer when you first call in. I'm not sure but I think level 1 is for your basic "I can not connect" config. type issues. I give them a 9. Hey, they have to deal with the "Public" they probably deserve medals.

Level 2: Again, I'm not familiar with the range of duties here but the level 2's I've spoken to are savey, concerned and seem to do what is within their power. I give them a 9.

Then we have the "Truck" Techs. They are the ones who usually have their tounges hanging out from running around trying to keep up with the insane demands of who ever the clown is that schedules our service calls.(Who ever you are...GET YOUR SH!@ TOGETHER!) These people are put in a no win situation, they can not time travel much less fix router/networking issues. I give them the right to beat to a pulp those that think they can. Rate Cox Support - Cox (18) They have been for the most part friendly and helpful. I give them a 9.

Now we get to what I call the shadow people...heh, has anyone ever talked to anyone over level 2? I've assumed that they exist and are tied up trying to put this pup together. Their score at this time is an I, but the results aren't all in and they may run away with it all once it is all done and said.

But as far as rating Cox Tech support as a whole I give them a 0 a big fat() 00000, a hole, a big fat hole. I have had some good tier 1 and tier 2 techs that have helped me. Come to think of it I had 1 on teir 1 and 1 on tier 2 that has helped me and were concerned with my problems. But I can say over all they ain't worth a XXXX.I had techs come out that didn't have a clue what was going on. They new the basic check the line stuff. I am not a computer genius by no means and what I do know I probably learned from this sight, but I think I know as much as the techs they sent out. I even had a tech tier 2 guy on the phone who ratted this sight or any other sight out that didn't belong to the cox system hang up on me!!!!! I am in the New Orleans area and they have a cox speed testing sight that is listed in the dslreports external sights, this guy told me that I can't go by that sight because it is not set up yet. I told him that I would send him the link so he could check it out and he said he was not interested because it shouldn't be listed here because it is not ready yet. That is the same big hole that hung up on me. Do you know how long it takes to talk to someone in the tech department and then he hung up on me!!!!!!SORRY I am venting again

I've said it many times, and I'm going to say it again, since nobody seems to bother with looking through archives of posts for meaningful answers that have already been posted.

*shrug*

Cox tech support does exactly what it's supposed to. Whenever I call them up, I don't expect to talk to a knowledgable network guru because I expect those guys to be the ones in the background fixing everything without taking the time to answer phones. Phones are not where the network techs should be.

If I call Cox tech support, it's to report an outage. Any more and I would be wasting both my time and theirs. The people on the phones, for the most part, aren't paid to know what the hell they're talking about. They're paid to help the common idiot (who shouldn't be using a computer in the first place) solve the most basic of problems where the problem (in the mass majority of cases) lies between the chair and the keyboard. Calling Cox tech support "idiots" is really like calling the local city legislature "retards". It's true, but it doesn't prove anything nor help the situation.

Therefore, I have to give Cox tech support a 10/10. They're perfect for what they're there for. Report an outage, get confirmation, either of a planned outage or of something wrong on their side. Don't give them time to feed you their required crap of "maybe the problem is on your side" because if you go that distance EXPECTING help, you're just as dumb as they are.

This is for the local Cox Kansas' Cox HSI tech support down in Wichita, Kansas[I haven't tried the national tech support, but local tech support is very good]:

I rate Cox level 1 tech support[which helps you set up email, newsgroup, make you unplug your cable modem and restart your PC for better performance] a 9 because they are very helpful when I had problems even if it was on my end. I rate level 2 tech support[that pings your cable modem, make you do tracert and ping tests to websites such as yahoo, zdnet, etc., and finally send the printout to a network egineer], a 9. I give the field level techs a 9[because they helped me when they came out even if it's bad an bad cable connector and don't complained about it]. I give the connection a 10 because I always hit 3000-3100kbps download and 220 to 250kbps up, have good latency and pings, no matter what time of the day it is:) This is for Cox Kansas and my experiences only as each Cox tech support is different:):)

And really, who are you calling a "common idiot". For one thing, it is the "common idiot" who pays for a service and expects to get what they pay for.Tech support is one of the things that this "common idiot" expects. Now do I know a lot about computers..NO HELL NO. The next question is am I trying to learn...YES HELL YES. When I am having to deal with slow speeds and packet loss, you telling me that this "common idiot" should not call and complain and look for help to resolve the issues? I've had less good experiences then I've had bad, and if you would read some of the other thing people have said about cox tech support, I would thing you would feel you were on a deserted island, pretty much all alone. Does you daddy own COX? Get off of your band wagon.....Thanks
